4Runner Nomad is built around boondocking, practical car camping, and life on the road. I share the places I explore, but also the decisions and everyday systems that make a vehicle-based lifestyle work.
I’ve spent nearly a decade car camping and more than three years living full-time from my Toyota 4Runner. The view outside changes often. The work of keeping this lifestyle running comes along for the ride.
The road started long before the 4Runner
I grew up in foster care in my homeland of Hawaii and eventually aged out of the system. Moving with very few belongings was familiar long before I ever made a vehicle my home. Learning to adapt was part of life.
Over the years, I’ve traveled across the United States, Europe, and Mexico. I’ve lived on a boat, camped deep in forests without a vehicle, and lived off-grid without running water or electricity. Those experiences taught me to look beyond the scenery and pay attention to how people actually live and make things work.
Learning to travel differently
In 2019, a hiking accident changed the pace of my adventures. Before then, kayaking for days, hiking long distances, and camping along rivers were familiar parts of my life. I still wanted to explore, but I needed a different way to do it.
The 4Runner became my mobile home base: a place to sleep, work, carry what I need, and keep moving when the time is right. Car camping went from something I did on trips to a way I could live.

I enjoy a beautiful campsite as much as anyone, but a good photo rarely shows everything that went into getting there. This is where I share the practical side of the journey, along with the places and unexpected stops worth remembering.

There’s still life beyond the campsite
I run an online business while traveling, and I coordinate care for my adult son in an independent living program. Those responsibilities don’t disappear just because I’m on the road. Sometimes the route changes, or I stay put longer than planned. That is part of the lifestyle, too.
There isn’t one right way to travel or live from a vehicle. My goal is to show how I approach it, share what I learn, and offer useful information for people building a version that works for them. If you’re new here, start with the 4Runner Nomad guide.
