Car Camping & Boondocking Gear Finder
Build a practical gear checklist around how you camp, what you already own, and what actually matters. Start with essentials; upgrades can wait.
Built for cars, SUVs/crossovers, and trucks/vans. Choose your setup, then mark items you already own or have handled. The resulting list is a starting point—not an automatic shopping cart.

Size equipment before you buy
For electricity, list the watts each device uses and how many hours a day it runs. Estimate total daily watt-hours (Wh), allow for charging losses and a reserve, and check how you will recharge. Compare that need with a power station’s battery capacity (Wh), continuous output (W), and surge capability before choosing a unit.
For water, estimate the needs of everyone traveling, including pets, for each day of the trip. Include drinking, cooking and cleaning water, then carry a reserve and confirm where you can safely refill. Check the weight and secure your containers.

Safety note: Verify your own vehicle’s limits, trip conditions, local camping rules, and weather. Avoid draining your starting battery to run camp equipment. Never operate fuel burning stoves or combustion heaters in an enclosed vehicle or tent. An equipment checklist does not replace a detailed emergency plan.
