I know some will say we already know it’s always good to be reminded.
FIRST THE DOS
- Be aware of your surroundings. Are there escape route if needed just basic stuff
- Pack out what you pack in
- Leave the site looking just as good or better than you found it.
- Make sure to pick up any cigarette butts or bread ties
- Clean out fire ring
- Be respectful of others
- Have fun
- Take lots of pictures
- Make sure you look above your camp site and make sure no broken limbs that could fall and hurt you or kill you. Never ever setup under a broken branch
- Always follow fire safety rules and know what they are
The DON’TS
- Don’t leave food out it will attract animals like mice and raccoons and yes bear
- Don’t drive fast past other campsites especially on dirt roads it will make it really dusty for other camps
- Don’t play your music so loud the whole campground or others can hear it.
- Try not to run your generator all day as it’s really annoying to others.
- When dispersed camping try not to crowd others as there are dispersed camping to get away from people most likely
- Don’t cut standing trees down, make sure you know the rules on firewood . DON’T bring firewood from other areas into a different area that is how beetles spread and destroy forest
- Don’t burn plastic in fires or bury food waste it attracts animals
- Bury your human waste and toilet paper there is nothing worse than driving up to a site and seeing a bunch of toilet paper and human waste gross.
- Don’t let your pets run free if others are around. Not everyone likes dogs or cats.
- DON’T leave any hot ash in the fire ring when you leave make sure all coals are cold don’t be the person that starts the next forest fire.
These are just a few and mainly the ones I see almost every time I go camping. I say use common sense and treat nature and people like you would treat your house and your friends. But mainly have fun.
I see a lot of people get upset when a family comes out camping and they have kids and the kids are making more noise than you like. My rule is that’s why I use to bring my kids camping is to have fun. So if it really is too much for me I will move and not complain to the family. My whole thing is I go camping to relieve stress not to be stressed.
One other thing I would like to add is something I use as a rule. I don’t want to be that person that gets stuck or that so my rule is if I have a doubt my SUV can make it down a road or through a mud puddle I turn around not worth getting stuck.
Like I say these are just the basics and I am sure there are a lot more that can be added .
HAVE FUN LEAVE FOOTPRINTS AND TAKE PICTURES
